Sorting Through the Clutter If you somehow were able to unearth my diary amidst the clutter of my room, then you would probably find something like this... |

Sunday, May 25, 2008 A beautiful song that's been on heavy rotation on my iPod for awhile now... He and I had something beautiful But so dysfunctional, it couldn't last I loved him so but I let him go ‘Cause I knew he'd never love me back Such pain as this Shouldn't have to be experienced I'm still reeling from the loss, Still a little bit delirious Near to you, I am healing But it's taking so long 'Cause though he's gone And you are wonderful It's hard to move on Yet, I'm better near to you. You and I have something different And I'm enjoying it cautiously I'm battle scarred, But I am working oh so hard To get back to who I used to be He's disappearing Fading steadily I'm so close to being yours Won't you stay with me Please --- A Fine Frenzy, "Near to You" Labels: If music be the food of love... posted by Jenn | 8:48 PM |Wednesday, May 24, 2006 I just rediscovered Modest Mouse - Float On. It makes me want to dance around in my bedroom. I think I'll just go do that right now. Her smooth voice brings back the sound found in the hazy, dimly-lit jazz lounges of yesteryear. Who knew such great jazz talent existed in our own backyard. Labels: If music be the food of love... posted by Jenn | 12:27 PM |Wednesday, April 12, 2006 I went to a UB40 concert yesterday night. Now before you start laughing, or vowing to never read my blog ever again, or sending me hate mail, let me say this: Live music is always good. It's the energy of the audience, the sweat on the band's face, the occasional wrong key pressed on the keyboard. It's the moment that you can never recapture. Because you know that particular performance can never be repeated in its entirety ever again. So yes, even a UB40 concert can be entertaining. I knew a minimal amount about the band before going but I still had a fun time grooving along to the reggae beats. I have a very eclectic taste in music. I'll sing along to Mariah Carey's power ballads, go to the symphony so I can appreciate Prokofiev's piano concerto, scream along at Justin Timberlake's concert, sway along to James Blunt, bop my head to the local jazz band, rock out to Franz Ferdinand, and stand around for 3 hours just to see Neverending White Lights. Music is such an integral part of my life. So much so that if we butt heads regarding music, most likely we won't click. That's pretty hard to do because I pretty much listen to everything. Everything but metal. I went on a date with this guy once. We had pretty good conversation over dinner. Up until this point: me: "I listen to everything but metal" him: "Oh. Metal is my favourite kind of music". *awkward silence* We never met up again. Haha. Ah, music - my friend - thank you. You even serve as a date-screener. In memory everything seems to happen to music. - Tennessee Williams Labels: If music be the food of love... posted by Jenn | 9:33 AM |Monday, April 10, 2006 I have nothing interesting to blog about. I'm trying to get back into rockclimbing, after a 10 month hiatus. And Spring has sprung! Even though it's so cold still. It's the annoying in between period when it's too cold to spend too much time outdoors, but it's so sunny that you don't think you should be spending the day indoors. I've spent way too much money in the past week. I didn't even intend to really buy anything when I went with S to Sherway but I ended up spending more than I should've on this beautiful winter coat. I know! Winter is over..why am I buying a winter coat??? But it was too gorgeous to pass up on...and I can save it for next winter. The Neverending White Lights concert on Wednesday was good! Cheap tickets for some good live music. I am sick today. I thought I was just tired when I woke up yesterday but by mid-afternoon I had succumbed to a full-on flu (fever, chills, and everything). I have soooo much work to do too. This sucks rocks. Wow, that was the most random blog entry ever. AMAZING! He has the most ethereal voice. Sounds weird, because he's a guy, but he sounds like an angel. Perhaps a fallen angel, because there's this tragic air that surround all of his songs. Beautiful. But full of grit. ![]() We managed to get these amazing spots really close to the stage. So close that you could see the beads of sweat on his face. ![]() He's a fantastic artist to see live. He's got the British, boyish charm that instantly endears him to you. Strong vocals and dry wit. Someone hose me down now. Labels: If music be the food of love... posted by Jenn | 11:49 PM |Thursday, March 02, 2006 Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! There's something about real, raw, heartfelt music that makes you want quit your job, pick up your guitar, and take off to Tuscany for a month or twelve. That's what I miss about Toronto...authentic lounge music. I miss dimly-lit lounges and the improvisational flair of a jazz pianist. I really liked Bianca's Bar. Leather chairs and barstools were scattered randomly around a gleaming black grand piano. The music was soft enough for conversation but loud enough to grab your attention ever so often. The lounge was almost empty, so we could request whatever we wanted. I asked him to play some Sinatra. And when I closed my eyes, I could imagine myself in a lounge somewhere in the heart of Toronto's theatre district. Labels: If music be the food of love... posted by Jenn | 7:57 AM | |
